question for all, ford 3000 deisel

My neightbor just up and bought a ford 3000 deisel and knows noting about one, neither do i. his question is what does it cost to overt haul one? what causes it to smoke out the spout where you put the oil in? he says it uses about 4 qts. oil in 8 hours of heavy bush hogging. Thanks for your replys in advance. James

Probably a couple grand to over haul one. If you do it's important to bore and sleeve it because of known cavitation problems in those Fords.
If she's blowing that bad it's probably pretty tired on the top end. I would check to see if the vent tube is plugged for why it's blowing oil.
Great small tractor though if you get the engine fixed.
