So long/short is I was asked to cut/rake/bale about 15 acres. Good grass hay.. Land owner doesnt want anything to do with the process. wants me to handle the process including sales. I have a couple folk that plan to take about 1/2 to 3/4 off the field however I may have haul and store the remaining not taken could be couple hundred. So does that change the 50/50 to like a 60/40 or whatever if I have to make sure all hay has been removed one way or the other. thoughts on this please.. and thankyou!!

50-50 is a good deal for the landowner already, so he shouldn't object to 60-40, but you have to have the agreement in place first. When I did it on shares, landowner got 1/3, I got 2/3 (when I had to handle everything, including sales, like you're doing).

I agree with Mike. If the landowner wants more then a 1/3 then he can help. I have the same deals. Two landowners have nothing to do with the process so they get a 1/3 of the value. One landlord wants 1/2 so I make him gather and sell it himself.

We always went 1/3 to the owner and 2/3 to us if we handled all of the hay, marketing included. We went 50/50 if he picked his up in the field and we did not have to market it.

I do have a couple of 50/50 deals on alfalfa hay but the owner paid for all the seed to plant the stand.

What did you agree to before you started?

I don't really care what others think, if you agreeded to 50/50, then stick to your word this time and change the percentage next time to make up for your loss.

I would say 1/3 for the landowner and 2/3 for the guy putting up the hay and that would depend on the yield.((The owner would be responsible for hauling his own share of the field)
If there is 2 round bales or less to the acre i would take it all.
If i had to do the hauling, stacking and selling of the landowners share i would want 3/4 of the crop.
