neat handicaped shuttle

I got to the Central Wisconsin Steam and Gas Engine show in Edgar Wisconsin saturday. It was a good show, but the thing I was most impressed with was the shuttle from the handicaped parking lot to the grounds. Someone in the club designed and built it. It is a trailer. the box is big enough for a row of rear facing bus seats along the front and there is a row of inward facing seats along the left side. There is room enough on the right side for 3 wheelchairs or two scooters. The really slick thing about it is that the wheels and hitch are mounted on arms with hydraulic rams. When the driver wants to load or unload, he drops the whole thing to the ground, there is only a 4 inch step up with a built in ramp. when he is loaded, he picks it back up and goes. I hope it catches on.

It pry started out in life as a hog loader. Or at least the inspiration to build it would have com from one. They were built to load market hogs onto semis without a ramp.

That's neat!

The way my hometown goes berzerk on July 4, I can see possibilities for something like that. There are shuttles running all over town all day, but nothing like this.

I'm gonna save the pics.

i'm racking my brain to figure out the lifting linkage... :?
Does the hydraulic cylinder "pull" up the box into the wheels?
or
Does the hyd. cyl. "push" the wheels down onto the dirt?

very cool thing! Thanks for taking a picture of it.

The hitch and wheels are on a "wishbone" frame. There is a link in the back from the frame to the trailer, to make it lift evenly. the cylinders push the wheels down, and I think the cylinders replace the rear link in the front. there is a place for a safety pin to lock it up when not in use.

Smart

We can"t say "handicapped" at work without at least a dirty look. If dealing with a government agency they get all growly and insist on "barrier free access".

He designed his own linkage as it works different than the common hog cart trailers. He did a heck of a job.

The picture above is of the common hog cart. There used to be hundreds of them around here. I seen them not bring $100 at auctions in the past. Not many sell anymore as guys just scrap them for more than they usually bring.
