about my Farmall M

Hello
I am new to this forum and new to the hobby of collecting old tractors. Last fall I acquired a partially restored (painted pretty) Farmall M. The serial number is 174836X. I am thinking it is a 1948! But what does the X stand for? A friend who collects a few tractors looked at it today and stated he thinks my tractor has been retrofitted with newer style brakes. The are a plate type. Could this be a factory upgrade of a dealer upgrade? Thanks in advance.

Mid 1948. X is gasoline only operation, no starting tank. Osco-Lambert disk brakes were a retrofit "better" brake (some were dealer installed, some farmer). They work OK and can cost some if needing wear parts. That name should be visible on the housing. They are mounted using 3 bolts. Jim
