Potatoes are dug

We all got together this weekend to dig the potatoes. We had 6 rows about 80 yards long. The 2nd picture is one row that we dug. The next few are the rest of the dig. I figure about 1000-1200 lbs. We had 3 types, Kennabec, Russets, and Pontiac Reds. The old digger did good till the last 3 feet when the blade up front snapped. So now I'm going to look for a new front scoop for the digger. Didn't get a good picture after it broke but i need to get a new front scoop.

Gotta say( knock on wood) we haven"t had a problem with them. But we do use seven dust early in the year and that seems to help a good bit.

Talking about Colorado beetles remind me of a story. I was doing a job in Colorado a few years ago and an Asian beetle flew out of my truck. My business partner, who was from there, said great we did not have them before that.

You are very fortunate. It is so wet, I can't dig my 9 rows that were planted in late March.
Glad I canned 128 quarts last year.

Good looking job on the potatoes.

On your front blade/scoop. I have repaired them using new mold board plow shears as a new cutting edge. I used (3) 14 inch shears. One went in the front straight across. I then cut angles on the other two and put them on each end. They ended up in an upside down "V" shape with a flat top. On one of the diggers the steel behind the cutting blade was still good enough so I just welded the new cutting edge on. The other digger was worn/rusted clear out. So I used some 3/8 steel plate to make the back half of it.

Look up Admire or Nuprid.> they work. You still get a few but no more stripped vines.Spinosad works very well on newly hatched bugs.

Sevin dust doesn't faze them a bit up here. Went to liquid Sevin this year and it's a [i:654c4848f0]little[/i:654c4848f0] better, but not much.
