Ford 8n tractor with Front end Loader

I have a Workhorse model #42 front end loader
mounted on my 8n tractor. The loader will raise up
high when empty. When I put a load of 200-300 pounds in the bucket, It will slowly raise about
2 feet high and stop, then the front hydraulic
pump will make humming noise, as if it is straining to go higher. Is this an indication that
the pump may need to be rebuilt or replaced.
The motor is full throttle as it should be.
Thanks, Dan

Just a guess, was the loader made for a tractor with higher hydraulic pressure than the 8N? The guys on the Ford forum might know.

I'm curious about that "hum". Is the pump still turning?
I know it's driven by a drive shaft off the engine, but they can strip.
If it is turning, and your fluid is full, check the hydraulic pressure
with a gauge while trying to lift a load.
Could be the pump needs attention.

I once was working on a tractor with a front broom. The broom worked great until it was set down on the ground. Then it totally stopped. It turned out to be the suction line to the pump was collapsing on the inside. If this turns out to be the problem in this case, please let us know.

I would think it has run out of oil. Run the bucket up to there, shut it off and check the level.

Could be one of a number of problems. Pump going bad, the dive shaft from the crank pulley to the pump is stripped out and slipping, the relief valve is bad and opening at low pressure, cylinder seals bad and more then just one of the number I said. Time to check pressure out of the system and also have some one pull the control to life while you watch the drive shaft and see if it stops spinning
