2000 silveraldo brakes/low pedal

doesn"t it have disc brakes on all 4 wheels? Mine had rusted out brakes lines under the hood, going from the master cylinder down to the frame. When I lived up north the salt rusted thru them. Had to replace those lines & now pour used oil on them occasionally.

Your brake pads and shoes may be worn. If the rear brakes don't have automatic adjusters they may need adjusting. If you need to pump your brake pedal they may need bleeding. Check your fluid level. Hal

My 2001 had a low pedal, but after new brakes and rotors it was the same way.Turns out the anti-lock brake unit was causing the problem.I pulled the fuse that was for anti lock brakes and now I have a good tight pedal.

Probably has a popped steel line. You can buy nylon coated, rust resistant, prebent lines for that truck from a GM dealer. I just did one and they are slick. The set comes with all the frame lines preformed, cost about $110.

Seems to me if a"popped steel line" is the problem he'd be adding brake fluid after every other brake application!

If the pedal goes down 1/2 way and is firm then look to the line problem. if it just feels spongy till about 1/2 way, look for a stuck caliper slider. it will spring back each application, and cause a low pedal but no trouble light. Jim

Have you inspected the brakes, front and rear? Rusty rotors can cause a lot of trouble with the ABS sensors. It's common for the rear disk brakes on those trucks to get sticky calipers from lack of use.

Ever seen how much fluid one of those trucks hold? I have
seen trucks with a large leak not be low enough to trip the
low fluid switch.

Yep, just found that with the 03 Duramax at work. That unit that goes bad is on the frame rail under the driver"s seat and I"m told runs about $1700 from the dealer. You can get rebuilds cheaper but they aren"t worth the time to put them in. Amazing what pulling that fuse can do.

I put the fuse back in because the door dinger dings for about 30 seconds the first time you hit the brakes while moving after start-up, and it doesn"t stop bad without the trailer on. The fuse will get pulled when I"m hauling cattle again.

It will have disk brakes on the front,no adjustment. And if it has drum brakes on back, they are self adjusting... Just finished a K2500 today with drum brakes,,, SELF adusting brakes!!!!

If it's like the Dodge and Ford they don't adjust unless you use the e-brake. We ran up the boss' drums (dodge) and he about went through the windshield first time he stepped on the pedal. Had to pull a drum to get it unwedged from the rim (disk-braked 3/4 ton wheels won't fit a drum-braked 3/4 ton) and showed him how the adjuster works so I think he'll be using his e-brake occasionally now.

(quoted from post at 11:56:06 08/16/13) Can anyone tell me is there is a brake adjustment on a 4X4 half ton silveraldo. Thanks for the help

It is an anti lock brake issue or else the wheel bearing is bad. I have replaced mine 3 times on the left front.

Had similar problem, replaced the anti-lock sensors on the front. No issues since.
