Looking at a JD 5410 with 3k hours, 4 wd, loader, looks to be in good shape. Dealer sale. What experiences do you have with these tractors? Good or bad.

I had a 5410 two-wheel drive about a year and a half. It had about 2800 hrs. Liked it, liked the 540/540E PTO. Peppy, geared nice. Seemed to need revved up for hydraulics to work right.

Good sound tractor. If it does not have the power reverser transmission it has a dry clutch. Over all they are pretty dependable. Good starting tractors too.

We have a pair of 'em - one collar shift (gear drive), the other with shuttle shift. Both were purchased used and have accumulated a couple thousand hours since.

Good solid tractors. Economical on fuel, start easily in the coldest weather, reasonably nimble for a 4wd, etc. And the shuttle shift is slick for loader work, though the collar shift is quite adequate also.

About the only complaint is the 5410 engine is LOUD (they have a very sharp diesel rap). But using ear protection takes care of that.
