Krone disc mower

Well after 12 years of service and a rough bout with the end of a terrace my 350 bar mower is beyond repair. Wife wanted to go early Sat morning for a weekend trip and I had a few acres of hay to lay down on the hill. Hit the end of the terrace and it broke away, no big deal, Had some dew on the ground and I couldnt get stopped and when I was done the guards were pointed straight down. Will probably put back together this winter but started to look at some disc mowers. Found a Krone 283 that looks pretty straight, turtle shells not worn bad or cracked and there didnt seem to be alot of play in them when I turned them. Parts are local at the dealership and I think the price is okay, told the salesman I want to see and hear it run before its a deal. Anything else I should look at?

Maybe it was just my luck, but I bought a 282 Krone used. the bar cracked, the gearbox went out. Literally fell apart. Bought a New Idea 10 ft and like it pretty well. easy to work on

Krones are basically good machines, but you can have bad luck with any brand. Krone supposedly stringer because cutterbar is made from one steel tube. There have been 2 types of cutters, one with belt drive and one shaft drive. don"t know which is better.

We prefer Kuhn over here, or Tarrup/Kverneland. Our John Deere mowers are made by Kuhn. We had bother with the krone trailed mowers not following the contours of the ground very well...but then you could always go for a Big M?????

I have had two Krones and one M&W shaft will never own a shaft machine again. The Krones pull so much easier and hold up better. In fact I still have my old Krone for a extra. It is loose and wore but will still get it. The shaft M&W is in china some place. If the Krone was took care of it will be a good mower.
