Buzz Saw ID, Factory Or????

Hi guys it's Bryce. I have this buzz saw sitting out in my yard, and am wondering if it is home made or factory, and if so what brand? I took sometime today and really studied it, and here is what I have found: It is built REALLY well, as good as it should be if it was coming from factory. Everything matches in size, and nothing has been cobbled up in order to fit. Still has a lot of paint left on it which is Orange and Green. There isn't a single part number on it. Also has these funny clamp deal-e-o's up on front, and I can't figure out what they were for? I think that it is some type of New Idea saw, but have never seen another machine like it? The guy I got it from favored New Idea, and was terrible at making things with a welder. Let me know what you guys think, here are a few pics! THANKS, Bryce

I am sure there was a market for these saws back in the day. Could be factory made, but with no markings who knows. The thing on the end looks like an adjustement to lenghten the part. Growing up I can still remember the farm next to ours using this type of saw. Stan

IF that saw had a stationary engine on it, those sliding clamps may have been adjustment to keep the belt tight and straight. I have no idea on the brand of that saw however.

My guess would be that is a factory made buzz saw. I would also guess that it would mount to the front of the tractor with mounting brackets installed on the tractor. The brackets on the buzz saw were probably to tighten the belt as well and make it run on the pulleys straight.
Chainsaws took the place of the buzz saws so not many people use them anymore. I still have one in the barn that I haven't used for years since the chainsaw is so much more handy.
That's just my guess.

I don't remember it, but when my parents first moved here, my dad said that he remembers the guy running it with his TO-30. I now have the belt pully attachment for the back on top of the pto, and I also have the belt, but it is way to long for the saw to be hooked to the tractor. Is there a way to "fasten" the saw to the ground? Thanks, Bryce

I have one that is pretty similar maybe the same, with some orange and green paint. I'll have to look at it, I thought it was a sears and roebuck, but maybe it is a new idea. There is a metal id plate on mine.

I've seen a dozen that look almost exactly the same on Amish farms up here. The sliding table type like that are just a little easier to use then the swinging table, especially with heavy wood. You can short of "fasten it" to the ground with rocks, stakes or letting it freeze in in winter! I mounted mine on skids and the long ends point back towards the tractor. I can stake it down pretty easy that way of pile a few logs on it for weight. The skids are 4x4x12 treated IIRC, might be 4x6x12'.

I love my old buzz saw. Beats a chainsaw any day of the week on pole wood. And no, you won't cut your hands off or lop off your head if you use the same caution you use with a chainsaw. In fact I think it's a bit safer.
