Back to Work

I have to go back to work on the big engine tomorrow. The waste gate control for the turbo is reacting to fast for the new injection system. They did get it running last week, but it stalls when going online.

What are they gaining by your company installing all of the electronics on the motor??? I usually am going the other way here.

I have several vehicles that I have removed and replaced much of the electronics on. The latest is a Dodge diesel truck that had the electronic controlled fuel pump on it. The electronic fuel pumps where know to have issues. I found a kit to install the older style mechanical pump that lasted much longer.

Got several early throttle body injection gas engines with conventional carburetors on them. Left the electronic ignitions as they seem to not cause much trouble but the early fuel injections systems where a nightmare when they get older.

The next one will be the oldest son's 2010 Doge diesel pickup. Just as soon as his warranty is totally up the EGR valve and exhaust filter are going Bye Bye.

What year Dodge Diesel are you retrofitting? Last year I spent 4 grand on my '01, VP44 pump, injectors, and Fass transfer pump... The VP 44 scares me... It and the electronics may die before the rest of the truck.. Thanks..

It is a 4000HP Clark natural gas engine.

They are having issues with uneven mixture causing detonation. The last overhaul cost $3.5 million. The ignition and fuel injection are on dedicated controllers, the interlocks and boost control are in a PLC. I do the PLC work. The total cost for this project will be about $750K, with my part a small portion of that.

A side benefit is reduced NOx and supposed to be a 3% increase in fuel economy.

Something like what this guy is working on?

It is a 1998 model we have already done. The 2010 is just around the corner. The EGR and exhaust filter are going BYE BYE. Then if/when the variable turbo sticks it is gone.

The federal government EEG heads, like our fearless leader, just know how to "mandate" things. It makes no difference if the technology is not here to meet the "mandates"

All these GM Dodge Ford diesel trucks come factory with one fatal flaw. [b:b85bdc022f]There is No fuel pressure gauge[/b:b85bdc022f] to warn that the fuel supply(lift pump mostly) to the IP is failing and that causes the IP's to fail.
