Bought a set of forks for the L3800. They are 42" and have side adj. Part of the frame is homemade,but the plate and forks are factory. They seem strong enough for my tractor as he could lift one end of a truck. It's the quik-tach style like Bobcat.
 
You will want a guard that goes higher than what the steel is in the photo, a log or a round bale, or anything similar could roll back down the loader arms onto the operator in the seat, given whats shown in the photo, its likely an easy fabrication and install, and a lot safer when handling things that can roll.
 
Merl First off good set of heavy forks. Now realize the heavier the forks the less load you can pick up. Tractor with that loader will usually pickup about 1200 lb IN THE BUCKET at the time we set them up. Folks fail to realize that as the load gets farther out on the forks the lifting capacity drops. Build you a light guard
as the other poster mentioned and enjoy you Kubota. Also check the air in your front tires at a regular interval. Easy to roll a front tire off the rim if pressure is low.
 
Looks easy enough to do, just a must have I think, and use care with loading, I had no choice to use our small 33 HP MT 265 challenger to lift heavier items with the forks, it did play heck with the front end, meaning repairs, they need a bigger tractor, but with reasonable care and consideration given to the weight you lift, you will appreciate these, I am not sure how we lived without a set for so long, extremely useful around a farm.

I built this wt box last week from a 3.5 mini fridge. I filled it with concret and put lift points down in the mix. I haven't lifted it yet,but the calculated wt. should be about 450 lbs.
 
I bought a quick tach set for my Westendorf, and they do have a guard that sticks up on the back.
