Once again, California easily wins this one for the lower 48 states. Badwater in the Death Valley is the lowest point in North America at 282 feet below sea level. Mt. Whitney (14,505 feet) is the highest point in the lower 48. These two points are a mere 85 miles apart.

Of course, North Carolina wins east of the Mississippi, with Mt. Mitchell at 6684. Here in Michigan, there's not much of a delta with Mount Arvon in the Upper Peninsula at 1979 feet. The highest point in the Lower Peninsula is 1705 feet. The low point is Lake Erie at 571 feet.

There's a private road out to a marker at the highest point, which is actually a couple hundred feet higher than Denver. They have a "tip box" out at the end and it's open for public use during daylight hours.
We're around 2600-2800 here around Stockville.
