9N Water Pump

I am reinstalling the water pump on my 9N. The 1/16in. plate between the block and the pump has a nut welded to one side. The plate installs either way. Should the nut face the alternator/governor side of the engine or the starter/oil filter side?

Mine is on the oil filter side. The pump was new when I bought mine. Ford/New Holland had done it, so there's a pretty good chance that's wrong.
 
The captive nut is for the generator belt tightener bracket on late 8N's that have the generator on the LH side.

You have a 9N with the generator on the RH side so
the very EXISTENCE of the nut is of NO consequence to your tractor!

The original WP never had the captive nut, it's just the parts supply chain trying to keep things simple and CHEAP by making a "one size fits all" waterpump to fit 9N, 2N, early 8N, and late 8N!
