I recently picked up a 1974 Cub Cadet 154 Lo-Boy.
It hasn"t run for 15yrs. I"m gonna try to revive it.
Would TSC have the tuneup and filters I need to try and get it running?
And How would price compare to Case/IH dealer?
Thanks for any help.

I"m a believer in keeping the Case IH dealers alive. You may save a few pennies soemeplace else, but the dealers are few and far beteween. When they can"t make any money, and they go, then we"re in real trouble.

I buy a lot of parts and shop on line most of the time.
Granted it is good to support a near by dealer BUT When the dealer wants anywhere from 1/2 to 2/3 more (from the same manufacturer) I won't pay it. Quite often I get free shipping with orders if over a certain amount, often as low as $ 50.00.

The few times I bought tune up parts at TSC, cause of emergency, non of it fit anything, points were mis-labled. Go to IH and buy the correct stuff. Even the difference in buying wheel bearings from say Worthington Ag, it is all Chinease vs. Timken bearings from IH.

Been my experience(s) that TSC is grossly overpriced and severely lacking in anything but dogfood, knickknacks, and clothes. Around here they"re known as "The Suburban Cowboy" stores. Guess they"re just responding to the perceived market.

as the others have said go to ih oir a good auto parts store, [ take your stuff with you] my cub is great and in almost dailey use during the summer, but put cheap tune up parts in it and it wont run, use quality parts and filters you wont spend another 10 bucks and the parts will fit, work and far outlast the cheap junk

I think a better place for parts would be NAPA Auto Parts. I have had much better luck with quality and price from them than tractor supply. They do have a lot of parts listed right on their website, but with the info you know they should be able to look up everything that you'll need to get it going in their books. I know the Case dealer by me is way to expensive and too rude for me to want to spend my money there. Hope that helps.

Timkin are making their aerospace bearings in China! Don't know about the type IH sells?

My CIH dealer would more than likely be able to fix you right up. Although they treat me good and I like going there.
I also know if I felt I was miss treated their I could go to the owner and he would straighten things out to my satisfaction.

I wasn't looking for the cost savings as much as convenience.
TSC is open today[sunday] and I've got some time this afternoon.
Guess I'll go to C/IH during the week.
Thanks for the replies.

NAPA Auto Parts will list everything that you
need in their "Outdoor Power Equipment Service
Parts Catalog"!
It might not, though, be listed under "Cub Cadet",
so you will need the engine make and model #.

TSC, in my opinion, caters to Drugstore cowboys
who moved to an acre in the country, and are
buying overpriced hay a few bales at a time in
order to feed a pet horse.

I try to send business to my local AGCO and CASE/IH dealers, but sometimes their prices are too high for me to go through them (especially for special order stuff).

However, I've had nothing but headaches when doing special orders from Tractor Supply. I rather order off the internet, honestly. Places like TSC do this to themselves with either incompetent workers, bad customer service, or just plain mismanagement. We have a Farm & Home store locally that is 10 times better than what TSC claims to be, honestly.

if it is Sunday afternoon and you just gotta get that tractor goin then maybe. Even then that sunday afternoon repair might last till Monday morning. otherwise stick to the dealer or napa.

TSC is a waste for tractor parts. I went to store for points for a CA. Computer said 3 on shelf, where actually there was ZERO on shelf and they wouldn"t order any as computer did not say so.

Have you tried the YT web site "the site this forum is on. They have most filters and tune-up kits. You will have the right part in a couple of days after ordering.
