Dead battery in tractor

I traded for a tractor that had a dead battery. It wouldn't charge up after several hours on the charger.
I dropped an asprin in each cell,(12 Volt battery) I put it on the charger overnight and it is still charged up after 3 days off the charger.
Has anyone ever heard of this?
Its the first time I have done it.

I've heard it hear on the forums several times, never tried it though.
Maybe next time one of mine heads South.
Doesn't seem like there's much to lose.

A battery that is incredibly dead will fail to act like a load to a charger. If enough time goes by they can begin to conduct and might charge. Overnight is usually needed to have success. Some computer (smart) chargers will not charge a DDDEEEAAADDD battery for any reason.
I do not believe in putting anything but distilled water in the cells. Jim

As an individual that has been through numerous
battery explosions,

I am of the type to replace rather than kick the
dead horse.

They sometimes kick back.

the asperin thing is a old used car lot trick,[ the kind of lot where the fat bald guy in the yellow pants checkered shirt and stripped tie sells you a auction lot special as a little old ladys ride] it will revive a marginal battery for a time, exactly why i dont know,it has some kind of chemical reation, but be advised your running on borrowed time, you do need to go get a battery for it, when it quits ,its done, and it can do that at anytime, anywhere
