water in tractor?

Also should flush it with diesel or kerosene and there will still be pockets of watery oil. Don't forget hydraulic lines/cylinders, if equipped.

I don't know how long but I believe that it is very worth while to check once or twice a year to see if there is water on the bottom of the housing. If I find that oil is milky I won't change it right away. Crank case and hydraulic oil will usually be cleared up by working the machine. A gear case is more likely to have the water sitting separately on the bottom. You could be changing oil every week with cold fronts following humid weather.

With HyTran, it varies depending on the temp. The warmer it is, the faster it seems to seperate. Middle of summer when its hot out, its seperated all its going to do in about a week. In winter, its much slower. Might take a month or so and still not have a distinct line seperating oil and water, more like a cloud layer that gets light in color the lower in the jar it gets. Its also worth mentioning, if it gets real cold with some freeze cycles in it, it can also happen pretty fast with very good seperation and a very clear line between the oil and water. In summer though, even though it happens fast, there is more of a middle layer that is like clouded milk.

I put a drain plug on my tractor with a nipple and ball valve. Now when it sits for a week or so, its easy to reach under and drain a little out. Free water comes out first (and fast), then the milk layer and thats thick and slow, then the oil and that comes out at a speed in the middle. Even if its dark out, I can hear the difference and know when to stop. I drain the oil into 1 gallon glass wine jugs so I can see how much water Im getting and can watch the seperation line to know when to drain more water out of the tractor. I have been doing this for several years now so I got a pretty good baseline on what is happening inside the tractor case. Its probably not the best solution, but for me, it beats building an $80,000 shed (and paying taxes on it) just to put a $1500 tractor in it.

Give it a try, drain some oil in a glass jar and set it by your wallet and keys so you can look at it every day. Im convinced transmission oil dont have to be changed like people recommend, it just has to have the water removed. I keep saying I am going to work on a better solution but untill then, I will just drain water and be happy.
