O/T Coyotes

Was out last weekend mowing the food plots. Got in early about 6 .M. to beat the heat. By 8:30, the turkeys were moving in chasing bugs. Had the trail camera out and got these shots. At about 10:48 a coyote came for lunch. Off went the birds...BUT.. About a minute later as you can see on the time stamp, the hen came back in looking to challenge the coyote. She had about 8 poults with her when they moved in to feed. She must of come back to try to run the coyote off.

That is some good stuff that makes the work worth it. To have witnessed it all in person would be a sucessful day in the woods.

Birds are interesting characters, I saw a ringneck pheasant outsmart a fox, had I a video camera would have been great as it was right in front of me. I heard the cock pheasant making a distress call, I went over, (this is right near my home) to investigate, ran smack into the fox with his nose down, I look to my right in the thick underbrush, and there is the pheasant, slowly and very carefully, outflanking the fox, who mind you seemed to have a scent on him. That fox was so focused on being a predator, he either never saw me or could care less, I was that close. That pheasant easily got distance from the fox, and disappeared in the thick brush. I could have easily tagged the fox with a rock he was that close. Same pheasant, cause there was only him and a hen that for some reason just showed up out of nowhere, used to love to hang around the house, on my porch railing, tonneau cover on my truck and the field I hunt, and did exactly what is in the photo when that fox was after him one afternoon. The birds will and instinct to get away was incredible, but they don't stand a chance at night unless roosting up high.

Those coyotes in broad daylight will run deer, I have seen it up close, a deer ran right past me 3 times, after circling, tongue out and visibly fatigued. I finally spotted a very large coyote, on the prowl, that deer was running him in circles, I guess thats how they test for week ones.

Nice set of photos. I have some coyotes close by, but only hear them late at night. Did see one in my back yard one afternoon, but of course I didn"t have a gun handy. Might have to do a little calling some night....

Saw these about 10am a week ago 5 all together the people that own the property lost a jack Russell to Coyotes a few yrs back.

Got these 3 on cam at once......they have a den in
the valley right south of the house.....Open season
this year....better half didn't approve of me taking
care of them from the back porch......until one of
them went across the hay field with a fawn in its
jaws a month back...
