Gleaner K rear beater

I was combining sunflowers today with my Gleaner K. Going along just fine, and then my combine plugged on me. I stopped and looked around the combine. The rear beater near the end of the straw walkers had broke the chain and bent the rear beater shaft. Unplugging it wasn"t to bad but now the shaft on the rear beater is bent. I have heard of people taking the rear beater out because it causes plugs. What is the purpose of the rear beater anyways? Should I fix it and put it back in or just forget putting it back in. I don"t want anymore plugs!

I don"t understand what you are talking about. there is no "beater" at the rear end of the straw walkers. If you"re talking about the front end of the straw walkers, yeah, that is essential, to push the straw down to the walkers.

The rear beater is called a threshing beater. There is a slip clutch on the threshing beater shaft. I would take the slip clutch apart and see why it did not slip.
