The bolt that holds the bowl to the bottom of the carb on old 8 HP Briggs - the threads inside the carb are stripped enough you cannot tighten the bowl and therefore leaks big time. Do they make an oversize self-tapping? Or do I have to find a used carb?
 
Duct tape? Just kidding, helicoil maybe. Or JB weld and drill and tap it. New carb is probably the best idea.
 
Is there a jet above the bolt??? If there is then you will need to be careful trying to retread/repair it or you will block the fuel flow to the jet above.

The simplest would be to find a good carb and replace yours. I have found some metric carburetor bolts that are slightly larger than the English ones. You have to re-tap the bottom of the hole for the metric bolt.
 
With an oversize tap you might be able to get good threads, and an oversize nut could then complete the repair. Those items probably aren't available and will have to be made. Cost would be lots more than a used carb, unless you have a really good machinist buddy. And you have to be sure not to block fuel flow to the jet in the stem.

No problem. That was just the situation I had on a 12 horse Briggs. There was a jet above the plug.

I tapped the hole for the next size larger. I bought a bolt that would fit the new threads and bored out the hole in the bowl to match. I used the bench grinder to size the bolt (length) and I was good to do. That was three years ago. I put about 75-100 hours a year on that mower. Not a single issue.

Those carbs are pricey, but I figured I had nothing to lose trying. I will do anything to keep a Briggs flathead engine going.
 
Is it the bolt sort of thing or the carb?? Either way I almost bet I have one laying around in a parts Ben since i do lawn mowers as well as tractors
