simple job - paint the deck. First, get hit on the left shoulder; just a graze, not too bad. Go to a rolling toolbox drawer, pull it out & rip out a nest. Got it on the back of the right hand. Pull up a chair to sit down & rest, try to figure out where I'm going wrong & got hit on right hand finger. Typing tonite with right hand twice as big as left hand. When I was young, 20 minutes later I never knew where the sting was. The devils build a nest & don't get aggressive til the big hatch, then the mob attacks. At least it made me forget about the mosquito bites & sweatbee stings.

Cut a raw onion and rub that on the spot. My Grandma did that on mine as a kid and it took the pain away!

2X4,

Those wasps at your place were just visiting you. They actually live on my farm. This is wasp central.

All kinds of home remedies. If you can get to it right away, I've always found that common old housecleaning ammonia takes the sting away almost immediately.

I was looking at a display of sting reducing treatments at the Co-Op a while back. The first listed ingredient is ammonia.

I keep little packets with me for use when I'm away from the house.

Daughter got it once this morning
(Sat) helping with firewood. Afternoon discovered a 10" diameter wasp nest on the Sat. dish base about 4' from where I'm putting on siding next week. I'm all for leaving bees but had to give these 2 the Raid treatment this AM.

Nothing else around put mud on it right away. Oh yes once out in a dry field I had to make mud. It worked. Enough details for now how I made mud.

No wasps that I didn't see first. But, last weekend found my first two yellowjacket nests. Those buggers are the worst at protecting their property. They will chase you more than 100 ft til they find you.

When I hook up machinery for the first time of the season first thing I do is look for wasp nests. Been surprised too many times.

Got hit by one a week ago. I have to be very careful when I do because I can end up in the hospital real easy if I get more then just a small hit like I did last week

Got stung twice yesterday, for the first time in a couple of years. Was hooking up a trailer that had been used only a couple of weeks ago- reached up under the ball hitch to make sure the clamp was back where it would clear, and felt the little paper comb, then two quick stings.

Its a strange little wasp-like critter, with black and yellow markings- a little elongated, like a mud-dauber wasp, but not as long, and colored more like a yellow jacket. I've only begun seeing them in the past few years- they make a little paper comb which is attached by a very thin "attachment". They are not aggressive.

And I seem to have developed an immunity to bee stings- it hurts for just a minute or so, and within 5 minutes, I cannot even tell I've been stung. No swelling, no pain or tightness, nothing. I'm not complainin'.

I got one in the eye last week. Last year I got one in the eye and after being convinced to go to the emergency room.,got a 900 dollar hospital bill. This time I drove right to the pharmacy and took two benadryls. I have nests all over and did see one going into a hole of an unused tool box. I plugged the hole but won't try to open the tool box just yet.

I saw in the paper today that a couple in Pantego, Texas was attacked by a swarm of some 30,000 bees (apparently African bees) while they were exercising their miniature horses. They were stung numerous times, but the horses were killed. They said the horses were almost completely covered with bees.

Got one onmy left hand today, getting some scrap iron ready to build a basket. Daughter was righrt there with a pressure washer--2,000psi absolutely solves the problem.

True story: My dad worked for the same grocery chain for about 30 years before retiring. One time he borrowed my trailer to move some grocery baskets from one store to another, about a fifteen mile round trip. He noticed there were a lot of yellow jackets flying around everywhere he went, but didn't think a lot about it. Turns out he was hauling two large nests, one under each fender well, the whole way. Evidently most of the critters stayed with the nest while he was moving. I know there were still plenty left when I got the trailer back.
