is this july!!!

we are in a cool down too. Highs in the 70's nights in the 50's. Great sleeping weather. We have not had the usua heat this year but the humidity has been stifeling. We need rain in a big way too. Clay county MO.

I just took the air conditioner out of the window. Tired of listening to the cold wind whistling through it. From the sound of the forecast I won't need it for a while anyway.

So, with Heat Degree Units for plant growth, you figure temperature minus 50 degrees, as a base. If you have a low temp of 46 and a high of 50, and the average is 48, minus 50, you end up with negative 2 GDUs for the day! Does that mean the corn grows in reverse??!?!?!

Started firewood season today, good cool day to get the pile started. No Deer flies either! Hoping for a 40s tonight in Whipholt, MN for sleeping with the window open.

Used to go to Cedar Springs Resort every summer until Woody died. Then went to Maplewood until they sold out to building lots. Lots of great memories there.

Seems like the season is running at least two weeks ahead, sure do not miss the Deere flies. Have to get back on the firewood soon as I usually start up again middle of Sept.

Furnace has kicked on a couple of times this evening in MN. 10 days ago we were in the northern part on MN at a resort and would have paid a good price for an air conditioner in the cabin we were staying in. Crazy weather this year!

It topped out at 66 today here in NWIA. Low was 46 last night. The corn is breathing a sigh of relief from the dry heat we've had. It looks more lush and green now. .35" of rain helped too. Jim

Mark I grew up on the other side of the abandoned resort East of Cedar Springs. Was a large Green house set high over the lake was our place. Parents are still living there. Maplewood owner just lost his wife so I imagine the remaining parts of that resort will be gone too.

(quoted from post at 15:23:00 07/27/13) we reached a high of 50 degrees today, average high around 84, had a jacket on,NW Wisconsin
We just had the first day not in the 90's in the last 11 days....tied a record. Veggies are doing great, but brushhogging for a living sucks the energy right outa ya in that heat!

I hate to say it; but I think this may be the new normal. I'm in Pittsburgh and it just seems every new weather front is on the extreme side this year! The Ohio Valley usually has pretty moderate weather systems. This year, when it rains, it really rains!. A warm streak becomes a hot streak; etc..
Hang tough, it just may moderate this fall.
But then there's winter!
Dave

Didn't remember a green house on the other side of Timberlane? All those resorts along the lake. Pine Cliff, my grandparents stayed there, Timberlane, Huddles in Whipholt.I kinda remember Pam had cancer. Didn't know she passed.

UP here in the UP We've had two frosts already in July, one early in the month and one last week. Last 3 days have been topping out in the upper 40's with low 40's and upper 30's for nighttime lows with daily rain and drizzle. Feels much more like October or November.

Still have about 30 acres of first crop hay that I'd like to make but with this kind of weather not sure if I'll get it made.
