wierd auction thing

I went to a local consignment auction july 6th near my home.It had 4 or 5 tractors and a few pieces of equipment. Two days ago the auction owner called and wanted to know when I was going to pick my tractor up.I told him I didn't buy a tractor, never even bid on one.He said his clerk told him I bought the tractor.I was standing there when it sold and saw the buyer bid on it.After it sold the buyer didn't give a buyers number and they moved to the next item. The owner said my buyers number was wrote on the loader. I stopped today and looked for a buyers number, but didn't see one.I'd hate for him to tell people I stiffed him.

I did that once at a machinery auction. Ended up with a broken Shaver Post Driver that I didn't want, need, or even bid on for four hundred and fifty dollars.

I always keep my number out of sight at auctions and don't ever discard it before getting home. Its a very easy way to steal something and blame you for it.

At a consignment auction the clerk needs to hear the seller number, the final bid, and the buyer number for each item.

A lot of other numbers fly around by the auctioneer, and people sometimes transpose digits, and so on.

It is a wonder tree are not more problems than there are.

In spring 2012 I went to a consignment auction and when I went to leave they had not charged me for the $150 or so I had bid on a pile of metal roof panels. I asked about it and after abouut ten minutes of head scratching figured out that my number was 262 and the writer-downer had written 252 instead. That person had not bought anything so they had not checked out. One of our fairly local auctioneers videotapes the whole auction so that it can be determined who bid on what.

That is weird we had one here where a bunch of guys came up with fake numbers and bid stuff up and left. That was because they had a bad spell with said auctioneer!!!!

Yes all that AND tell them in the office to close out your number when you leave.

That's true but usually this doesn't appear until after the auction and everyone has left so it would be impossible to resell the item.

I once had an auctioneer I knew very well call me and say why didn't you pick up your stuff, Me , what stuff, so went by the auction barn checked out the stuff , some good , most bad, we negotiated a deal, and parted friends. all this comes from taking bids from people who don't bid just to keep the item moving in the bidding, sometime they get caught.

Years ago, we were visiting relatives just outside of Texarkana on a Saturday and they invited me to the "sale". They usually went about once a month and this was the time to go.

It was a regular event with everything from tools to animals. Anything a person could get to the place was eligible.

The regulars had their special places to sit, I found that out when I was "politely" told that was so and so's seat and you better not be caught sitting there when he comes in.

The bidding got hectic, with two guys spotting the bidders. Each of the regulars had a particular way of bidding. It was almost comical. I can see where someone scratching an ear could buy a shetland pony in a flash. I was (and still am) a little ignorant in the ways of auctions at the time and made the decision that maybe I shouldn't go to them without supervision in the future.
