Hello, I can not get any of the jets to turn out of this carb.. One screw on the butterfly is stuck. Is it safe to put it in an electrolysis tank? Or is it better to soak it in ATF? I could do either, but I thought the tank might be faster.
Thank you

there is special stuff for carb cleaning, its called carb cleaner. it is sold at napa or other automotive type stores. just leave the jets in and soak it for at least an hr. wash with cool water then blow out all passages with air watching to see that none are plugged.
and depends what you are referring to as stuck. electrolysis is for rust, and not an actual carb cleaner. atf wont do much either.

K-5 carbs are pretty easy to find, usually a few of them on ebay, I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it, if it is that stuck, just get another one.

Will this cleaner loosen the threads of the stuck jets so that they can be removed? I have a cleaner that I got from a dealer/repair shop that is very good at removing residue and varnish type of crap, but I would like to be able to remove the jets. Thank you
Steve

have you tried a hand impact driver...i use one on stubborn jets...unless the bushings are worn completely out i would leave the butterfly alone.

soak it first then try the jets. make sure u use a good screw driver on the jets even if you have to modify it to fit, as so you don't round off the edges then you are toast. unless you are changing jet sizes it don't make any diff if left in.

For years I have used a simple trick to loosen jets, before scuffing them all up take a good punch that fits the whole head of the jet and tap it a few times, a worn rounded punch is no good, if needed grind flat. Use an appropriate screwdriver that fully fits the flats and stripping over is less likely. On cast bodied carbs hitting the jet with heat from a acy torch will loosen them also, obviously you don't want to melt them out, lol.

Frank-In-Tallhassee used to put them on a bbq grille and let the heat from the grille loosen the rust and small screws. Then clean it after.

The punch is a good idea. I never thought of that myself. A good screw driver tip is a must. I grind the tip flat, and the grinding wheel leavs a nice sharp edge on the tip. Stan

Just heat the jets or the screws with a torch, (a propane will work), let them cool they will screw out. Don't beat on the throttle shaft or the choke shaft they will bend & break easily.
