Should'a kept mine shut too

Didn't want to hijack 37 Cheif's post. I should have just given directions and left it at that today. I was loading bales and a truck hauling a load of scrap stopped along the road. A guy got out and asked me where the scrap yard was. I told him another two miles up the road. I saw a hog panel on top of an old manure spreader and told him to hold on. Asked if they wanted to sell that. They're always nice to have around to plug up a hole if a calf wants to wander or something. They had two,$5 each. There were those two little rusty gates too,$2.50 each. And that 16 footer,$20. I spotted that Dearborn 2x14 plow with Oliver Radex bottoms, asked what they'd take for that. Been wanting some implements for the wife's Oliver Super 55. $75. OK,let's unload it. Well, did I want those back blades? I told them no,I had two of'em around here that I never use, don't want'em. Come on,give us $40 for the lighter one,you can sell it and make money for that. They kept twisting my arm til I said I'd take it for that. How about the other one? It's a good heavy blade, like new! Nope, don't want it. I started writing the check for the other stuff,$150. One of'em said make it $250 and we'll unload that heavy blade too. So,I did.

Anybody want a 3 point blade?

LOL, that sounds like something I would do.
If that's a Dearborn blade I'd be interested.
Or if any of them tilt side to side, be interested in that too.
The only one I have left is pretty light duty.
Shoot me an email if you like, I could swing by tomorrow or one day next week.

You sound like my late wife.Just going to the store for a few items. Seven hours later a U Haul truck pulls up in the drive.

They said they had sold a farm over by Carson City and were cleaning it up. Hope it was the truth!

I got one just like it a few years back with a brush hog that I'd bought. I put a new paint job on that one and got $250 for it.

I'll have to take a look at that heavy one after supper. I know it angles, but I don't know if it tilts. It's heavy, that's for sure.

Maybe I need to put a sign out in front saying something like "Stop for scrap yard pre inspection" or something. That's the second time in a month or so that something like that has happened. The son of a guy I knew who had passed away quite a while back stopped with a load of scrap. He had a 3 point bale spear with him. It was just a cheap Tarter, the spear was a little bent but the paint was real good. He asked if I wanted that for $50,so that's out in the tool shed. Some day I want to get that made over for the quick attach on the loader. I've already got a heavy one for the 3 point.

6 foot, same as the lighter one. I found a Dearborn tag on the light one. The heavy one doesn't seem to have a tag or a decal on it that I can find.

I always say I don't weld, I sometimes stick a couple pieces of metal together using a welder, and it ain't pretty, let alone strong.

if we lived closer I'd be running out to make sure my equipment's still out there. The big blade and the two bottom plow look just like mine.

I'd say it was good you opened it.
Some nice plunder there.
Put the excess on craigslist and make enough to buy the Mrs dinner somewhere nice.
Keep your mouth shut while you're eating.

Never have been able to figure out why people take perfectly useable farm equipment to the scrap yard. About two years ago I was leaving our local scrap yard and saw a two bottom plow and a sickle bar mower that someone had left. If you don't have enough for an auction, talk to an auctioneer and he should be able to add it to another's inventory on consignment.

I am interested in a light weight rear blade. I am located in Central Illinois, just south of Champaign. Where are you located and what do you want for the blade?

I'm in mid Michigan. About 25 miles north of I96. $100? It's got the Dearborn tag on it. Straight as an arrow. If somebody had a restored 8N it would go great with it.

Naw,they were clean cut middle aged guys driving a new pickup. Said they had to take the day off to clean that place up because they had sold it. Kinda took it that it might have been their parents place or something. The rest of the junk on the load didn't look near that nice. Said they had to make two trips. I asked if there were any more 3 point implements, they said no. I saw them go with the second load so they were at least telling the truth about that much.
