Wisconsin Engine Parts Search

I really, really need a distributor cap for an old Wisconsin two cylinder engine. The engine serial # is not available and model # of the engine, is a little uncertain; may be TJF. The distributer is Prestolite# 1AD-4016 3G. The inside of cap has; 18 or I8 molded as well as 1G-324, either a 2 or 4 cylinder cap could be used as long as it fits this distributer. Some parts suppliers will do little to help me because I lack the engine S/N but the distributer information that I furnished ought to nail down the cap needed. Any help you can furnish as to where I may source this part will be appreciated.

carogator, Thank you for your response but the cap I found in the NAPA cat; Part Number: ECH AL143, is not the correct one. That one arrived at my NAPA store but was incorrect. I do not have ability to furnish photo but it looks like a common four cyl dist cap used on a Farmall H or M and many other tractors of that vintage, also it is about the same size as those. Like stated a 2 or 4 cylinder cap was used on this Prestolite dist, using either a 2 or 4 bump cam. While I would prefer a 2 cyl to a 4 cyl cap, I could use either one. The arrangement of the two nippels on the 2 cyl cap are 90 degrees and 270 degrees apart. On the 4cyl the standard 90-90-90-90 nippel spacing is used with only two wires, connected 90 degrees apart.

Look on E-bay, due search for, prestolite distributor cap 3481G1324G. You should come up with a different grouping of the numbers for an obsolete part of which their are eight available for $10.98 buy it now price. hope this is the one you are looking for..

If you have not found the cap you need yet post this question on the stationary engine forum of this site and Greygoat will help you out.

If you don't solve this, call the number at the site linked below and talk to Dr. Diesel.

Just dealing with him is enough to p i s s a guy off, but he WILL be able to supply you with the correct cap.

Your question is not an easy one to research, as you don"t know the specific engine model number.
I have 2, six inch thick, Wisconsin Master parts
manuals, an older one, and a newer one. Neather
shows a Model TJF. They both show a TJD, which is
a model where the pistons do not go up in down in
pairs, such as the older 2 cylinder engines do,
(models,TE,TF,TH. (A "D" suffex indicates a "Heavy
Duty" engine with Stellite valves, and valve seats))
There are 2 types of distributors, one mounts on
the rear of a generator, which mounts where the
Magneto normally would go. The other is for non
generator equipped engines, and just mounts on
a distributor mount, bolted on the Magneto pad.
The two Distributors have different part numbers
and, different cap numbers, in the Wisconsin
parts book. The distributor model number for a
TJD engine is Prestolite # IGB-1001B. A 1991
NAPA ignition parts book shows that cap as NAPA-
ECHLIN # AL-157. Good luck in finding one! My
NAPA store says that they"re "No longer made",
but they may be on e-bay, I haven"t tried that
source. I note in the NAPA book a #AL-143 cap
listed for Wisconsin AND JOHN DEERE,which may be
for the 2 cyl. upright engines such as in models
M and MT tractors. I only have one model TJD,out
of 12,two cylinder engines here, and purchased a
Magneto, in 2010, from Branson Enterprises for
$215.

This engine is on a Ditchwitch J20, trencher. The distributer is mounted in the coventional way, casted on an angle on the side of the engine.
