Watering Sweetcorn

My sweetcorn stands around six feet, tasseled and silk showing. I want to water in some urea. I have an elevated sprinkler that I can set higher to clear the tassels or I have another sprinkler I can set on the ground. Which is better?

You may be a couple weeks to late for the Nitrogen to do much good.

Are you applying the Urea by hand on the ground?

Gary

Urea you would apply at the ground, but I think it's too late as has been said. What you want at this point - if you are fairly dry is just a good watering to bolst the ears. Just my oppinion.

IaGary;

Yes, I sprinkle the urea beside the row about 4-6 inches out. I fertilized a couple of weeks ago. I thought nitrogen would help fill the ears. Maybe I was wrong. I have fertilized this patch two or three times so far so maybe that's enough.

Urea feeds foliage, you have all the foliage you're going to get. Over the years I've read a lot about watering corn and I've grown and sold a lot of corn. As I recall the watering program, at the onset of ear formation, your corn would like 1" of water per week.

I think you are too late. I sidedress mine by hand when I see the farmers out with the anhydrous in the field corn. Use it sparingly. The urea I buy is 48-0-0. I just bought a new bag this year. The last one lasted me more than 10 years.
