I have a 3020 that attaching the pto for the swather is a pain in the neck..swather is J.D. 1209 that you have to push button and slide back collar then try to line up splines. Usually the splines dont line up so you have to scutch the swather by hand to move ever slightly until you finally get lined up..I have grabbed the tractor pto but wont turn by hand. just wondering after all these years of cussin this thin if I was missing a trick..

With engine off take a 12" adjustable wrench aka Cresent adjusted snugly on tractor pto shaft, turn shaft with aid of wrench until splines line up,remove wrench, slid collar rearward and slide yoke on tractor pto.

Will the tractor PTO turn by hand if you shut off the engine? Sometimes you can turn them with a cresent wrench.

Like others have said, I always have a pliers on me so with the tractor off, I grab the shaft with my pliers and turn it while holding the implement shaft and it will slide right on.

I hated that pto collar lock deal I bought a normal thumb pin universal end and swapped it out on my 1209. What a pain in the rear that design was.

Simple method. Punch mark Pto shaft with drift punch, Paint the mark. Drift punch coupler and paint. Line up paint marks. Voilà . problem solved. 2nd recommendation is , Use pry bar to line up splines. DUH DUH DUH lol LOU.

On some of our equipment we had over ride clutchs and all you have to do is turn shaft on implement backwards and line them up.
