I found a 98 chevy with a 305 vortec engine. It has 250K miles on it, but seems to run great.
Any info on these engines would be appreciated?
I say it is tractor related because I want to replace my F20 195HP 327 with this engine.

Using that Vortec would require you to replace the electronic ignition and fuel injection with a distributor and carburetor, or figure a way to transfer the ECM and all the sensors to the F20.

Actually transferring a GM system computer and all isn't that hard.

Shouldn't be too bad provided you can get the computer and harness. You'll need to use 02 sensors, MAF sensor, and TPS. I imagine the computer will need to be tuned for a manual transmission, so a 305 from a manual truck is better. The engine itself is a great durable engine. The first vortecs were the last engine to produce the power down low, unlike the 5.3, 6.0 etc. 3 things you have to watch out for on these. They require 60+ psi. There are inline pumps available. Airtex E2000(good), E8228(better), E8248(best). A bunch more are available, but those listed are a great pump at a much more reasonable price than a Bosch. The lower intake gaskets go bad. Usually a matter of when, not if. Not as bad as the 350 vortecs, but still bad enough. The injectors are known to plug up or stick open. Just a crappy design overall. There are updated injectors available that convert it from CSFI to MPFI. $260+- from Rockauto. The Vortec 305 is 220hp and 290tq.

IMHO, 327 was probably the best small blocks ever built, bar none. They may be getting a little scarce now, but I would sure try to stay with what you have rather than trying to convert to an electronically controlled engine. Is yours rebuild-able?
