Ford 5000-hydrolics

I need help. I do not remember where to check the hydrolic level on my tractor. Ford 5000 SOS Gas engine. Don't tell me to look in the operator's manual because I can not find it. I need help in locating the place to check the fluid level ( a dip stick-I would guess) and where to fill it. Thanks in advance Kathleen

An SOS does not have a dipstick, and if it did, it wouldn't help for checking the hydraulic fluid level anyway - the transmission is separate from the hydraulics and rear end. If I remember right, the level plug for the 5000 is on the rear of the left axle trumpet.

Yea, I'm not familiar with the older 5000 - they made the 5000 for so long, it had several changes in it and you might get 3 different answers here, each is right for one or the other style of 5000.

Are you trying to check the transmission level, or the hydraulic fluid level? I believe those were 2 separate compartments that typically are now leaking together into each other, but have different check areas and different add areas.....

Sorry I'm not all that helpful, just your question is more complicated than you realize, with the different transmissions and different versions of 5000...... My 5000 is the big engine, tall, 16 speed, dip stick on the tranny side, very different than your 5000.

The Dual Power transmission (16 speed) and very late 8-speeds DO have a common sump between the trans and rear end/ hydraulics. The SOS always had its own oil sump, and I've never heard of them leaking between the sumps. The SOS fill/level plug is on the right side, and often has an elbow added to it - much easier to fill with the opening pointed up.

After re-reading this, I see you also asked where to fill... The SOS fill, as I said in my other reply, is the fill/level plug on the right side. The hydraulic fill is a large plug on the top of the rear end, slightly to the right of center. It may be partially concealed by your remote hydraulic lines/couplers... just to the rear of the seat.
