Wife and I were in line at the grocery store and the man in front of us was complaining about the cloud cover today. You want to see an upset farmer in a hurry? Complain about rain in Northeast Kansas right now! We had 1.2" overnight and it's raining again now, the first in 3 weeks. A huge blessing!

Some people think food will always be on the store shelves, no matter what happens around them. Stan

one day I heard a woman in a store say " we do not need farmers I get my food at the grocery store" I about fell over could not believe some one was that dumb

My aunt worked at an elevator for a long lot of years. She said you could never even get two farmers to agree on the weather. If one was happy I was raining on his beans, another one was complaining that he had hay down. lol

reminds me of the time Dad was having some fat calves haule doff , Mom had a cousin from city visiting , anyway during the sorting Pop cut one out for the freezer, cousin said why I"d never eat one of those I get my meat at the store Mom says "recon where they get em?" Lady bout fainted when it sunk in

Erik, you probably don't want to share any of that rain but if you do send some to Northwest Iowa. I can't imagine any central to western Kansan wanting to share their rain but I had to ask anyway. It's good to hear you did get some, though. Jim

The only time I have EVER heard any one in Western Kansas complain about the tain -- Was in 1965 when it dumped on Eastern Colorado and WE (Kansans) got flooded -- our farm and Ingalls (west of Cimarron) had 3 ft of water on it!!!

really is sad that our system does not teach people more about the real world guess we are the lucky ones who live and do this work

Ya right now here in Missouri the lake of the Ozarks area we are just about into a drought again. Been weeks since we had any real rain fall but also common for this time of year. Right now if some one complained about clouds and maybe getting rain I would tell them where to go. LOL

I can sympathize with your pain from no rain, but now-a-days food is just another commodity, it really has been since the railroads were built. If a crop fails in one location it is easy to purchase it from another region at a slightly higher price, usually the difference is not much more than the transportation cost. Here we don't have local tomatoes or sweet corn available yet, but they have been in the stores since before Memorial Day. Food can be shipped anywhere in the country or anywhere in the world, just like livestock, machinery and energy. That's probably a good thing as forign demand is supporting high US grain prices.

For most people, the local crop yeilds don't affect them at all except that locally grown vegetables are sometimes less expensive at the end of the growing season because of lower transportation costs and the lack of demand.

Haven't mowed the lawn for three weeks. I wonder what the cause it. Rained all around me today so keep hauling hay.

You're story reminds me of the old joke about the woman who went into a Diner, sat down at the counter and asked what the Special of the Day was. The Chef replied: Ma'am, we have fresh Beef Tongue & fried Onions. The woman said: EWWW!, I'd never eat anything that came from an animals mouth, just give me some fried EGGS.

Dad's city sister was visiting us, and dad announced that after breakfast, he was going to look at a Milking Shorthorn bull. Aunt Grace got kind of a perplexed look on her face, and said, "But Ray, how can that be?"

I never complain about rain but jeez i would not mind having 6 days between showers instead of 2 so i could get some haying done
