Hi
I adopted 1963 MF50. It's in pretty good shape. It starts up and runs fine. But, it does need some TLC. It need to be painted. Especially the red areas and the wheels. I know I can do the drive train paintwork me self, but I'd really like to the rests sprayed. I'm not look for a restoration, but I'd like to have it look decent. I called body shops, nobody was interested. I live in north of Baltimore. Any ideas?

A life time ago, 45 years, I wanted to learn how to paint. Signed up for an auto body night class at our local IVY tech. It really isn't rocket science to spray paint. The hardest part is all the prep work.

I'd second George's idea. See if you can take a course at a local vocational center in auto body/painting to learn the basics. If you use Synthetic enamel with a hardener, not much equipment is required. Mainly just a compressor and an inexpensive gun. Most of the work is dis-assembly, cleaning, and preparation. Actual painting doesn't take long, but prep usually takes me about 40 hours and I could spend a lot more.

Thanks fellas.... I found one shop that quoted me $2000 to "scuff and paint" the body work and rims. Sheeze...For 2 Grand, I will learn how to paint.

There is a tractor restoration book done by a JD guy. It covers painting too. He says to paint the hood first. It easy to try and if you mess it up it's easy to sand and retry till you get it right. Also get a book on painting auto body.

When I paint a tractor, I like to take the sheet metal off and paint them seperately.

My biggest mistake was using a 4000 psi pressure washer. I damaged lots of gaskets, valve cover. Got water in where it shouldn't go. My Jubilee got water in the hydraulics. Draining the hydraulics still left about a pint of water because the drain hole was towards the back of sump and water ran forward. I thought I was careful using the pressure washer, bad idea.

Now I put on the soap, let it sit, wire brush, scrap and wash off with garden hose.
