IH 656 shifter

My 656 likes to lock in two gears when shifting sometimes has anyone rebuilt the shifter its self
or just replaced the old one with another old one out of the junk yard. Seems to be a lot of play in the outer collar ?

You can weld and grind it to build it up if you cant find the original size of what it suppose to be just keep trying it on the tractor till you get a good fit. I have done this a few times with good results. I did buy a used one once and it was more worn then what I had.

656s are famous for locking up, I understand that IH had a rebuild kit for the shifter linkage. I doubt you can find the kit, so that leaves taking it apart and re bushing all of the pivot points to stop the pain. My 656H is worn out and jumps the shifter apart too, I would fix it if I could park it for a day :)

Found one in a junk yard one that caught on fire.
the cooer and shaft plus the pin for the shift leavers also and it was tight!
putting it in Friday while hay is drying.
And going to work on rebuilding the old one.
Thanks !
