Just seen your post about the 454 that is still overheating, Something to try, Drill a 1/4" hole in the base plat of the thermostat. That Will leave a place for air to get by when the thermostat is closed.

Forgot to say this earlier, but what if the timingis too far off, will cause odd overheat issues, especially if the advance mechanism is sticky or failing.

I wish. Went through the distributor already, just a couple weeks ago. Yes, timed wrong will make it run hot, but it will run cold for quite a while sometimes, then go from 170 to 220+ in less than two seconds?
