Counter Productive

I was going to let my down alfalfa hay lay for another day. I checked it this morning about eight and the stems were cured on top and under they were still green. After checking a breeze came up so I decided to roll it up so the hot breeze could blow thru it. I had it all raked by eleven and thought I might be able to bale late this afternoon or this evening. Went up to the factory to check on things and when I got back the flag hung down without a wiggle. No breeze all afternoon. Just rechecked and the outside would be ready to go but the inside didn't get close. Looks like we have two more days for it to soak up the sun and heat. Probly workout fine but will be sun bleached. I see several loads of almost brown hay today that has not had a drop of rain. I feed all of mine but those horse people that want purty green hay will not want to by this weeks hay.

I did that same thing a week and a half ago. Ended up taking the Kuhn rake out the next day and turning the double windrows. It was dry where I started by the time I was done with the field.

I think you'll be fine. Yes, the top side will get bleached, but the underneath side will be nice and green. Your hay should be nice to bale probably by tomorrow, and, you won't have lost all the leaves by going in there and tedding it again. We more than not....simply wear alfalfa out by working with it so much. Be patient.....and let it dry. If at all possible.

I checked the hay after I did chores this evening and the heaver places were to damp to bale but the lighter places would have been alright. Heavy due here in the mornings but I think it should be ready to go tomorrow evening if I just go to work and forget it. Wife Dixie's birthday party tomorrow evening which might cause it to lay another day. I just love sleeping in the house dontchyaknow. :)^D

Dick,
Plan on Thursday afternoon early, not supposed to get any rain until Thursday late. That's why I combined today, got grandkids coming for the weekend, then taking two of them to Chicago next week. I like sleeping inside too.
