New Chevy half ton mileage

I want to rent from Enterprise for a trip to Tennessee, kinda want a pickup. I would imagine it will be a Chevy. Anybody know what kind of actual mileage I can expect? I don't really want to rent a small SUV,but if it's gonna cost me a fortune more in gas,I can be persuaded.

I had a '98 GMC Jimmy (blazer) and a '04 1500 Chevy half ton they both got the same mileage 19mpg on the hi-way. Both had the 4.3 v6. I'd rather drive the pickup but it didn't have a/c.

This doesn't help much with '13 numbers but can't be too far off.

My son has a 2009 1500 with the 4.8 v8 4x4 and his will get right @ 20 on interstate. Thats on a trip from Ms to SD.

I just bought a 13 Silverado with the 4.3 and auto. I am getting 20 mpg. On long highway trips. I seldom go over 65 mph. I was hoping for a little better mileage

We rented a Grand caravan for our trip from Iowa to Colorado springs . Tons of room , best seats I have ever sat in . Did 7 hr stretch with no butt ache . Thing got 29 mpg .

The rental company should be able to provide very good fuel mileage estimates or mileage comparisons for their vehicles. That info is probably available at their website.

If you are thinking of buying a certain vehicle in the near future, then renting one is a good opportunity for an extended test drive.

Don't know why you want to rent a pickup. I will bet the rental company will charge about twice as much as for a car. Might get a mini-van for less than pickup.

I can get 18 average driving not long trips it drops to 16.5 with e.85 e.30 16.8 Highway long trips should be better 5.3 motor

I've got a 2010 Silverado that gets around 16.The best I ever got on the interstate was 17-18.It has 68000 miles.A local dealer has some 2014 models on the lot. There supposed to do better. The new dodge 1/2 ton diesel is supposed to do 27.

I have a 2007 1500 GMC, V-6. Open road 20-21 and not pulling a trailer. Trailer drops milage to around 13.

13 Silverado, 19-20 on the highway, sometimes a little better but not consistent. 2 lane roads, a little slower, might not be so good on an interstate. 10-15 pulling trailers. 5.3 with 6 speed auto, 3.73 gears, I think! Hope it gets better after it's broke in!

Don't know about Chevy, but my son's 2013 F150, 4 door, 4WD, with the EcoBoost V-6 gets about 22-24 on the interstate at 65mph. I get 22mpg with my 2001 F150, 4.2L V-6, 2wd, regular cab on 2 lane roads at 55mph. Big difference is his truck has GUTS.

Dale Hollow Lake. We're staying near Byrdstown, gonna hit the 127 Yard Sale down as far as Crossville.

Hi, if you go the SUV route, may I suggest a Ford Edge and I am not a FORD person. We rented one last summer and drove it 3,000 miles in 3 weeks and got about 23.5 miles per US gallons at about 70 MPH.
Was a great vehicle very stable on the road, very smooth ride, great backup camera. Not so good was computer menus for dash and even though it had auto climate control the AC was on the noisy side compared to my Buick.

PS if your are a COSTCO membership you can get better deals on car rentals.

Not really. A full sized pickup is about the cheapest thing you can rent from Enterprise. A minivan is about the most expensive. A full sized pickup is cheaper than a small SUV. They have small pickups on their website,Chevy Colorado, that kind of thing, but when I wanted one two years ago the gal told me it wasn't likely I'd get one. The guy told me this time that he wished they'd take them off the website because he's only seen one or two in all the years he's worked there.

Was actually there this week end. we live about 120 mi west. Hope you enjoy your visit to our state. Have a real good lifelong friend there in Crossville, own the Kubota store.

We try to get down there as often as we can. Have to come to love Dale Hollow Lake and the whole area around there. Went down there color touring last fall. Beautiful!

Depends a lot on how fast you drive. As a Michigander, I have to assume you drive like a maniac, in which case figure 17 mpg for a typical 5.3 Silverado. Slow down to the speed limit and you'll probably see 19.

I don't know which "small" SUV you're thinking of, but most don't do much better than 20 mpg. Depending on what you intend to haul, the ten percent penalty in mileage probably isn't worth worrying about.

Rather than ask a bunch of opinionated old pharts who have never driven the vehicles in question, you can go to the source and get the EPA ratings. Those are apple-to-apple comparisons based on dyno tests running identical trip profiles. I've found the "combined" ratings to be dead on with my mileage. Comparing three vehicles on fueleconomy.gov, I see the following "combined" ratings:

Chevy Silverado 5.3L 2WD auto: 17 mpg
Chevy Traverse 3.6L FWD auto: 20 mpg
Chevy Equinox 2.4L FWD auto: 26 mpg

Enterprise will more than likely have a Dodge. I rented one 2 years ago, for a trip to Ga. 4wd Quadcab with the 4.7. Got close to 23 on the highway, dropped to 17 in city driving. Liked the truck so much I bought a 2013 with the 5.7.

You don't really get to pick. Two years ago we rented a small SUV from them, got a Hyundai Santa Fe. Rented a mid sized car last fall, got a top of the line Chevy Impala with all the luxuries. Pretty much take what they give you.

I would assume it is because he is going to a 2-3 state yard sale and just may want to buy something ya can't haul in a car?

If you are looking between a Silverado and Colorado, they will get the same, around 19-21 on the expressway if you can keep from hot rodding it. 65mph or so. Traverse (SUV) will be around 24-25mpg.

These are all for 2013 model year.

I had an 07 Chevy v6, running tow mode at 60-65 and doing my own thing, I could get 20 regularly, even on 2-lanes. Fell in behind a truck doing 65 on a trip once and got 23.

Tow mode keeps the convertor locked up.

I'll have to try that. I only use the tow mode when pulling a big load and it makes the engine run faster.

It keeps the RPM up to protect the automatic transmission by keeping it pumping enough fluid to cool and lubricate it all. I had the 3.73 gears ( I think) and as long as you kept a light throttle it wouldn't unlock above about 58-59. If you could keep it above 60 and vary your speed to keep it there without much throttle application it did pretty well. Typically got 16-18, 20-21 when trying, and best was about 23 1/4 on a long trip.
