40s john deere la

i recently got a john deere la serial number 1040. it has the heavy walled tube frame and i was wondering if anyone knew exactly how special that was. is it more rare than the thin walled la"s? does the tubing have value over the bar stock framed la"s? also i was reading about people getting the original shipping dates and information about their tractors from the serial numbers. where would i have to go to find this? thank you

To my limited knowledge the LA all had the solid tube frames. That and styling was what made them "LA"s not "L"s.

Ask down on the JD forum. There will be 20 guys tell you that we both are wrong and don't know anything. LOL.

I've heard that you can call mother Deere with your serial number and they will tell you some vitals about your tractor over the phone.
That said, if you want a nice document suitable for framing you should contact the Two-Cylinder club.
The document they provide will have what information is available for a fee of $35-$40.
It's a good piece of provenance should you or your heirs decide to sell the tractor.
Also, a manual from Davenport tractor will be a good friend.
Both have websites with contact information.

to my knowledge some of the la's had heavy wall tube (mine is bout 3/4 in thick)and some where thin like an l frame because of war time shortages. im just not sure how many of these where made. i have found some pictures of both these frames in two-cylinder magazines
