Is there a way to control a single acting cylinder with a 4 way control valve? I have a remote 4 way coming off my front end loader and I"m am wondering how I could use it on a single acting cylinder? Thanks

A four way three position? Power raise and lower and center hold? You should have 4 hoses connected to the following ports, Pressure, Return, and A and B. A and B would connect to a double acting cylinder.

Single acting cylinder.....

Depends if you have an open center or closed center system.

Open center, tee the unused port B into the return.

Closed center, plug the B port.

I think you have open center as the only Masseys I know to have closed center was the 1100 series...1130, 1155, etc.
If you would, ask open or closed on the Massey forum to confirm.

It'll be open. Does it use a separate pump or the tractor's pump?

Not sure if you'd have to return unused port or not. When we use a single acting cylinder on our 285 we just plug it in and go. It blows the relief valve and it's never been an issue.

I have operated my Vermeer disc cutter(single acting cyl) on both open & closed center tractors. I just plug single hose into one outlet on the either style hyd's and use it. No hose to sump from control valve on either open or closed center system. I also operate my H&S hay rajke with single acting cyl on my Ford tractor the same way. If what ever the single acting cyl is operating doesn't weigh enough to push oil out of cyl then that could cause a problem.
