john deere 466 round baler

If it has mega-wide pickup attachment I'd not only walk away I'd run. I bought a 466 MW PU and it was the sorriest JD baler I had owned since a JD 410. Feeder fingers fell off of it while baling hay after the feeder finger crankshaft received some wear from baling Coastal on sandy soil. It may be the best thing since sliced bread baling Alfalfa but I don't want one.

(quoted from post at 11:38:08 07/13/13) Looking at a 466 round baler around 8000 bales through her. Pros and cons and how much is it worth Scott

I have one that has way over 16,000 on the counter. The crankshaft does wear in sandy hay, then the teflon inserts wear and fall out, then the fingers fall off as Jim said. There's going to be wear on that crankshaft. Mine is worn out, but I keep making rolls with it by putting a SS hose clamp around the fingers to hold'um on. I'll replace that crankshaft and the middle finger this year I guess. ($1050.00 for the crank, $300 for the finger, bracket, and inserts.) The other 2 are pretty new. Is it net and string or just string? If its both it will go for $8000.00 If its just string it should go for around 5k to 6k at just 8000 rolls on the counter. I like the 467 better for an inexpensive used baler. Get the gate lifted up and check for loose fingers and wear on the crank. Use that to negotiate the price down if you want it. These are the prices down here in Texas, probably way off for your location.

467 is by far the best JD rd baler that I've owned and I've had 2 of them. 1st 467(twine) I sold with 30,000 bales on it to buy my neighbors 467(netwrap) with 4000 bales on it which now has 16.500 bales on it now. Design of feeder fingers in 467 is light years ahead of a 466.

Yep, they got rid of that crankshaft arrangement and now have the shaft with the spiral finger design, sure works a lot better, and the updated square pickup tines work much better, too. I really like that over the edge wrap.
