Thinking about a trip thata way, down between Charlottesville and Lynchburg. What kind of weather have you been having? Is flooding an issue/rivers running high? Intend to some canoeing/fishing/sightseeing. Thanks.

Sposed to be hot and humid this next week. Great battlefields in the area, And Antietam and Gettysburg are a short day trip to the north. Have a good trip...

great place to go , but there has been a lot of rain in Va. this summer . it's green and wet with high rivers . forecast is mostly dry and hot for the next week . flooding is this week but rivers will be high for several to come . those places , James River state part and Buffalo Station are great places. have fun around Norwood also. how about Lotus View Retreat ? it' a 60's hippy village that never went away but an interesting place . We have 30 acres nearer to Lynchburg overlooking the James at Christian Mill Creek .

I am across the Blue Ridge in Waynesboro. Lots of rain this year, but the mountain trout streams are in great shape. The James is up a fair bit and off-color. The S. Fork of the Shenandoah is probably a better bet unless the weather changes. It's up right now from rain yesterday, but should be back down in no more than a week, unless we get even more rain. When the water is near normal levels, we have had great smallmouth fishing on both rivers.

As for sightseeing, plenty to see or do down this way. Monticello, Ashlawn, Frontier Culture Museum, Curus McCormick Farm ( near Raphine), Shenandoah Nat'l Park, Blue Ridge Parkway, you name it.

I'm about 40 miles south of Lynchburg. Lots of rain has made the creeks and rivers unfriendly for boating. Can't help you with the fishing but Sightseeing will be okay...don't forget Appomattox is just east of Lynchburg on US 460. Being Southern, I'm not much on surrender sites but the reconstructed village is very well done. If you travel in that direction (460 East), Green Front Furniture in Farmville is quite a place to visit, especially for your wife...it basically takes up the entire downtown business district and several old factory buildings...lots to see and the prices are very reasonable...people come from all over to shop there.

it's all about subjugating the southern states in those federal surrender sites and not about the second American Revolution which we maybe in need of again .

James River has been running high all Summer just had lots of rain to add to it.Rivanna would probably be your best bet.And Ch'ville is usually called Central VA.Monticello,Aslawn if you're into the "Waltons" Schyler is just off US 6 on your way to Lynchburg.Dew Drop Inn at Scottsville is now gone.

Thanks for all the input, now I have a nice list of things to choose from when we get there. hadn't realized so much was in the area.

My wife and I went to Jamestown last year and enjoyed it. We liked Williamsburg also; we were there on the 4th of july. We like the history. Mark
