Flushing sprayer

What's the best way to flush out a sprayer. It's always been used with weed killer in it. I been wanting to spray the yard for bugs, ticks mostly. But i don't want to kill the grass. It's a 35 gallon sprayer with a 8 ft boom sure flow 12 volt pump . Thanks.

Donald,

I agree with Pete. I don't know exactly where I read it, but the thing I read suggested using ammonia to flush out the sprayer. It's what I've been using for years. I assume that it really helps, but I don't have any proof one way or the other.

Neutrasol (sp)

It is design just for tank flushing and neutralizing a spray tank.

It works. I use it.

Follow the directions on the container.

I have read this before, have not tried it because I have one for each. Hey, don't cost much to try, maybe a few plants. Cheaper than buying another rig.

Yup, amonia gets most stuff out.

There are products, sold at farm supply stores, designer to clean out sprayers as well.

I go from insecticides to weed killer guite often. Ever spring I go the Dollar General and buy 1/2 dozen quarts of ammonia, a dollar per gallon. Run a gallon in with about ten gallons of water, I just have a small sprayer. Never had any problem

We use to use "aqueous ammonia" Just a real strong ammonia, had to get it at a chemical supply place. sounds like regular ammonia would work as well. We also added a little surfactant to the mix.

I did this on 400 gallon saddle tanks and never had any problems. Ran the pump and circulated it through the whole system.

I also kept an old broom and swept the inside of the tanks (as best I could reach) to get off any residual, but we were still using some wettable powders back then and it would settle out some.

Good luck, Gene

I know guys here use ammonia to flush their sprayers. I have never used any thing more than a triple rinse of water to clean mine between different herbicides and never had a problem yet. It is an 800 gallon tank though and that makes a difference compared to small tanks where there is less of a dilution factor.
