Heston PT 10

Hi, i am trying to figure out how to roll the head back on my pt 10. When i mow with it the guards point down just a little and collect residue and then clog up. I figure that adjusting their angle might help. I don't have a manual for it though s i'm not sure how to adjust it. any advice would be greatly appreciated.

That sounds like the old, old PT 10 that I had. I never did find an adjustment. It is recognizable by the round drive belt under the rear deck, which is not easy to change. The later PT 10 I had briefly. It is a much better machine and the cutter bar assembly will float, but not quite as well as a NH 469 and later MOCO.

Is there a provision on the hitch to raise the front of the machine? Raising the drawbar on the tractor will also raise the guard tips.

ok...hmm... so adjusting the spring tension on the lower lift arms wont help? that is what i was leaning towards...
How much would it cost to switch it over to stub guards? does it need a different knife then?

also would adjusting the height shoes make any difference in the angle?

thanks for the feedback

My old 990 Int'l had three positions to choose from on the shoes. My NH 111 has optional high shoes available. I would just look at the shoes and figure a way to make them hold the knife a little higher.

Have you looked at the head hinge pivots? (my description) If they are worn it could cause the head to not sit at the correct angle.

If I remember, there are adjustment holes down
where the wheels mount on the wheel strut. Also
if you follow the same bracket at the other end
there are 2 or 3 adjustment holes where it connects to the header, these are the first ones
to adjust. Has to be done from under the machine
I'm sorry to say. Not the best place to work.

Rust-O The hinge or pivot point holds up the back edge of your header, the shoes hold the front up. So raising the front and not the back, I would think would have to change the angle. At least it does on every mower that I have ever been involved with.

Das Unimog is right. My PT7 has holes in that location that change the pitch of the cutterbar,0,4 & 7 degrees if I remember right. Stub guards will allow you to cut about anything a disc machine will cut, just not as fast. I don't beleive you would have to change the sickle but you porbably will have to change the hold downs.

OK thanks everyone for the info!
the lower lift arms do have a number of holes so i am gonna try adjusting it there.
Looks like it might be a job. :)

Not a bad job unless the bolts fight you. i think
what I did was to do one side at a time, and use a
hi-lift jack on the lean bar to tilt the header to
line up the bolt holes. Don't put the jack in the
middle, you will bend the bar.
