Transmission Gears

On my BF Avery A the transmission gears are stuck on the shaft, and they will not slide forward or back. Does anyone have any suggestions how to get them to move? I have freed up the forks and rails already. I am inside a shop and would prefer not to use heat.

Modest heat is the best practice. A propane torch (no oxygen) just the common hand held bottl and Ice to cool the shaft while the gear is heated will not cause loss of temper. But it will expand the gear/shrink the shaft. It takes about 500 degrees to begin to temper a gear. Jim

I did one on a Cockshutt 30 a few months ago. Hit it hard with P'Blaster every day for a couple of weeks and then start tapping it with a hammer and a large piece of oak. Usually, they will start to slide smooth again in no time.
