John Deere 2640

Engine runs out of power or something slipping in the
driveline?
Equipped with the high/low transmission with the rabbit/turtle
lever?
How much free play in the clutch pedal?

something slipping in the driveline I think..

It is equipped with the high/low transmission with the rabbit/turtle
lever.
The clutch seems good.
Could it be low on oil?

I can't recall if the 2640 needs transmission oil pressure to
operate both the high and low . Or if it will fail to either high or
low with no oil pressure.
Of course check the oil level. Has anybody ever changed
the transmission filter , cleaned the screen and added fresh
Hy-Gard?
Free travel on the clutch pedal?
Hours or the tach? Is this a loader tractor? Has the tractor
ever been serviced by a JD dealer ?

Going up an incline does tach remain at a set speed or slow down??

(quoted from post at 16:06:41 07/10/13) The tach stays the same in low or high.

You don't think it's a clutch thing>

I have to ask. Do you have a shop, tools or mechanical experience?
It will only cost more to repair the long the tractor is operated while slipping.
Do you know what clutch pedal free play is?
Does the steering, rockshaft or front end loader if so equipped operate properly?
Are there gurgling, rushing or cavitation sounds from the hydraulic system?
