Oh good! More rain.

Rained all day Friday, sunny on Sat. Lot of neighbours cut more hay, to go with the brown rotting hay still laying in their fields. Now, pouring off and on Sunday. Sure is not our typical summer. Corn all looks good, and seems to enjoy the regular watering. Bruce

Haying is a crapshoot, always was always will be.
Don't listen to the weatherman. Throw a dart at the calendar and start cutting.

It has rained every day here for at least the last two weeks. I have not cut any hay in three weeks and don't know when I will be able to start again.

Had 7 inches since Wed at 4 o'clock. Corn crop looks great, some beans are rotting in the ground. Early ones look better. Garden is impossible to get in. Forget hay.
Trouble is, it has been wet all spring. Older folks say it was this way in 1950.
Pond and lakes are full and over flowing.
Lost my syrup cane patch I planted last Monday.
Take what we get.

Tell me about it! They had taken the rain out of the forcast for today so I knocked down another 20 acres Friday figuring I'd sacrifice a Sunday and bale it today. Guess again. I did manage to bale yesterday what I cut Wednesday. I planned to bale that Friday, but it was too calm and had a wet streak on the bottom all day. It was still there yesterday noon,so I turned it. It dried right down as soon as I got it up off the wet ground.
I needed to clean feedlots today anyway I guess.

I have the last 180 moldy bales to unstring and toss in the low spot. Had around 300+ laying in the field along with another 10-12 acres on the ground. 20% chance of rain showers in the evening when I started to bale 2 Fridays ago and got 1 1/2 inches at noon. Then it rained a lot every day and some nights for the next five days. Tedded the down stuff 2 times only to have it pour on it at night.
I baled it all even though it was turning black just to get it off the field. When I baled I sprayed sulpher but it was just too wet too long. Lost over 1/2 my first cutting.

Why don't you guys just admit defeat and round bale and wrap the hay for silage? With our climate here we always do that. it may be a bit costly but it still makes good fodder and anything is better than losing your crop.

Strange summer for sure. Not much dryer hear in Northern NY but we did get some hay to dry. Dropped on Friday and rolled it up on Saturday.
The weather forecast called for 40% rain on Friday And 30% on Saturday.
Funny thing the corn is growing good after it learned how to swim but now it could use a drink. They say it is going to rain tomorrow so I think I will give up my Sunday rest and go mow some hay, LOL all you farmers.

Some areas just west of me have had 12-15 inches of rain in July. NOBODY is cutting anything til this siege is over. When they do, it might be a real haul. Haven't seen this much rain in this much time in YEARS!

We had plenty of rain last year to make good crops.
This year, we have almost a years worth of rain in 6 months. I am not complaining. This is why I can so much garden stuff each year. It helps to have a 2 year reserve on hand.

Great idea Sam, but that means buying a silage round baler, a wrapper and a loader capable of handling them. Then there's the issue of storage, getting rid of the darn plastic and the fact people that want to buy small squares have zero interest in a soggy old wrapped bale.

I'd love to be able to wrap, but it's darned expensive.

Where in Northern NY 2 badly? I'm near Gouverner/Ogdensburg.

It's rained every day here (Central Ohio) since June 23rd. Got hay delivered but the last load was wet, cut the twine and scattered it all over the hay loft and put hi velocity fans on it. Might lose some of it anyway. It's so darn humid everyday that nothing dries. They are calling for a drier weekend.
