Currently looking for a new mowe. We want a tractor style looking to spend between $1500 and $2000. Any recommendations and brands to stay away from thanks

I didn't think that there were any of those that were any good anymore. Maybe if you spend a little more you can get one with a better motor as opposed to one that has a fifty hour rating.

i have 2 deere mowers that i am happy with. an l-110 automatic, 17.5 hp kohler 42 in deck and a gt 245. 20 hp kawi,54 in deck. the d-120 (new) will set you back about 1800 dollars. 21hp, 42 in deck. my 110 has had a rough life and still going. buy it from a jd dealer, not home depot. same price, but deere sets the mower all up for you. they have excellent parts support too. parts are not as expensive compared to my cub cadet. btw, my sheds are pretty much full of red tractors.

box store/sears and several others sell MTD made mowers under various brand names in those price ranges. the most dissapointing to me is cub cadet, had one built by IHC back in the day but quality now is not what it was, J D's from dealers are still well built if you can afford them.

I got a new Husqvarna 46" hydrostatic drive from Home Depot last year. So far no problems. Koehler engine. I have about 50 hours on it only thing I've done is change the oil and sharpen the blades. One of the things I like about it is it has a position on the key switch that allows you to mow in reverse. Paid around $1600 for it. If you do buy a lawn tractor style mower I recommend buy or building a front bumper as the hoods and grilles on all of these tractors will break if you bump into something and its hard to tell how close you are to something until it's to late

I suggest you google any mower before you buy it. I have a 97 JD gt275 48 inch and a 30 inch tiller, a 17 hp kawasaki. Great mower. My son had a JD push mower with a 6.5 briggs. After his threw a rod, he googled it and found out that engine is junk, rod problems. Some think it was made in china.

So asking what to stay away from really doesn't mean a lot. I would tell you JD's are good, son would tell you to stay away from a JD.

Just because an old brand is good, doesn't really mean the new ones are worth anything.

Your question is asked often here. Check out the archives.

I was at rural king, and they were selling a 54 inch huskie varnie for $1250. It was a used return item. I have a 8 year old 48 inch huskie varnie and love it. However, I purchased it at Lowes for $1200 with 5 hours on it. The paper work showed it had a short and was blowing fuses. So ask the person who bougth my mower and they would tell you junk. I have about 400 hours on it and no problems.

Before you buy anything google it for the latest reviews.

Check out a simplicity. They may cost a little more but they sure do mow nice. Hydrostatic is the way to go.

What do you mean by tractor style, 3 pt. hitch tractor style or garden tractor style? Hard to give a recommendation without understanding what you're looking for.

Jacobson dual bat wing will get the maximum width for you to get'er done in the shortest amount of time.

Got to thinking you may want to ask, what is the best engine? The same mowers may have different engine. What is the best tranny? Electric mower clutch? cast iron front end? Type of tires, bar or turf? Size of tires? Hard rubber tires? Which mower is the most comfortable? What mower do you need meds for back pain? What mower do you need sinus meds? A shower after you get off it.

Are you wanting a farm tractor with a mower or a lawn mower?

My CPA doesn't like to work on mowers, doesn't know how either, so he goes to sears and gets the extended warnanty. Pay now or pay later. His 54 inch rider was 6 or 7 years old and they gave him a new one. They couldn't find the steering part to fix his. Not sure what all they do, but I think they also replaced his belts and blades.

Try to refine your question, then decide?

We have a Husqvarna 42" hydrostatic drive with a 15 hp v-twin Kawasaki. 12 years of medium yard size (1/2 acre) and only one belt, no other problems, wonderful bagger! I would recommend it.
