Old Yazoo mechanical transmission

I have one of the 1980"s vintage with the 2 speed mechanical transmission. I had reverse quit working for me the other night. I know that parts are high priced and wonder if anyone ever transplanted a transmission from a different brand. A hyddrostatic transmission would be preferred. Otherwise it is in pretty good shape.
thanks for your responses in advance.

It could be your adjusting clip broke or came loose and the clutches are slipping. The last one I had broke axles. A place in my yard was down hill and with reverse fast, it would chatter.

A freind said with one Yazoo, you cut your mowing in half. So get 2, and you don't have to mow at all!!

It would be older than 1980's vintage. I think they quit making them in the early 70's. One of the first and most successful out front mowers. Howard Price got the rights to the original Yazoo in the 70's and made a very similar frame but used an Onan engine with a hand operated Sundstrand hydrostatic drive and a simple driveshaft to run the mower deck. We used to have a trade in 1976 from a golf course my dad sold new. A better machine overall but it was almost impossible to kill the Wisconsin engine on the original. When it was working hard it was similar to a 2 cylinder JD. Just chugged along with throaty beat. If I remember the transmissions could be very finicky and throw you off the seat if you weren't careful.

they were made well into the 80"s mabe even the 90"s my dad was a dealer until about 83 i agree the adjusting clip probably broke been inside many of the transaxles not as scary as they first appear
