why in the woprld would Ford put a senser in the top of the intake manifold with no threads , JUST A O RIN G ,, Shove it in and it is SUPPOSED to STAY????,, My dear Sara came in this afternoon , said the car was runnin hot and smellin ,, what I found was this water temp senser loose out of top of manifold ..seems to me that ought to have a clip or somthin holding it in ,??,is that THANG just PRESSED in ?? gonna call NAPA or Ford Garage in the Am

maybe?? but it threads into a fitting that apparently depends on a o -ring and compression tension to hold it ,, no sign of a clamp /clip ..closest bolt hole available is about 2 inches away ..

Pictures would help.

This is a 4.6 right? Any I have ever seen have a thread in sensor. Maybe the insert that the sensor threads into has came out of the manifold?

Are you sure the front of the plastic manifold where the coolant flows from side to side isn't cracked behind the alternator, very common on these engines.

It may have been replaced by now though, the replacement is aluminum where coolant flows.
