Sticky valves

What can cause valves to stick on Farmall H? The first time two stuck. We got those unstuck. Today only one stuck!?! We have been in the process of painting the H and taking it in and out of the shed. Could that have an effect on the valves?
It bent a couple push rods the other day and one this morning. Could the valve be bent?? Any input/thoughts will be appreciated.

Sometimes just starting one up for a few minutes, and doing that a lot of times will cause them to stick. Also old gas will cause it, is there a lot of sludge under the valve cover? If you've had head work done, valves ground and guides fitted, they may be too tight.

My vote will also be from old gas. I thought I would save some money and put a couple gal of old gas in one of my tractors. After that I had a real bad case of sticking valves. Stan

I would use a borescope light and see if there's carbon in the combustion chamber. There may be some in your guides. Hal

The guy I worked for when I was a kid had a M Farmall and U Minnie the he worked in the field, he always said to put in about a gallon of diesel fuel when you filled them up to keep the valves from sticking. Chris

another vote for stale gas being the problem.

It's also a bad problem with small air cooled engines (IE, mowers)

Little history would help. Was head repaired when doing work on the tractor. Unusual for H valves to stick so I am thinking like other, old gas unless head was worked on then it may be guide problems. They need to have a reamer run through them to clean old guides or true up newly installed ones. I have seen old gasoline coat the entire intake manifold and valve area with tar. Happened on a newly overhauled 300 I did for customer. Stuck those valves really good.

I agree with the others on the modern gas being the issue. Lots of people on this board have suffered from the old gas casing sticky valves regardless of brand of tractor.

I have been adding a touch of any of the following to my junker fleet when fueling: cheap 2 cycle oil, diesel fuel, or kerosene. (no preference really on any of the 3 choices just use whatever I have on hand is what I add a touch of).
