Cute little bale wrapper Picture

I was wrapping wet bales when my wife got home from work. It had just showered a bit so , she just pulled on her big rubber boots and came right out to help me. My wrapper is kinda primitive, so It works best if one person loads bales on, and takes away wrapped bales, while another helper puts on the plastic. So I think I have the cutest bale wrapper around, and I am not talking about that thing hanging on the back of the Case.Bruce

Russ, wet bales ferment like silage, but they do smell diffrent then chopped hay that is stored in a silo. I think it is because there is somewhat less moisture in the wet bales. Cows love it! And this year, if not for wet bales,we would have NO baled hay, just too much rain. Bruce

Yeah she's cute alright and with a job Geesh. Hate to be the safe police but a skirt running that machine could be dangerous. Don't want to lose a good one like that!

I agree on the cute wrapper- note to the young-uns on here- look for a "keeper" like that!

Cousin is in partnership in a dairy near here- he said the wrapper has "changed their lives"- For dairy-quality forage here, you have to start in May. Back in the days of baled dry hay only, every summer was one ulcer after another, dodging the frequent spring showers around here, trying to get it dry on cloudy 68 degree days, etc. They irrigate and get multiple cuttings, but they'd still end up with a bunch of either moldy or over-ripe hay that couldn't be used for the dairy cows, and had to buy a lot of expen$$$ive alfalfa to make up for it.

Now, they just cut when its just right, nutrient wise, and bale silage until we get a stretch of fool-proof weather (usually August), when they put up what little dry "heifer hay" they need. Sure has made their lives easier.

And as Cousin says, "Its something two old men can still do- don't think we'd get far trying to buck small squares like we did 20 years ago."
